Biblical Concept: Repent Theorems

Unbeliever Repent Theorem: Born in sin, indwelt with sin, spiritually dead in sin, having a nature to sin, living in sin, surrounded by sin + God consciousness + a Son sin substitute + Divine conviction of the sin of unbelief + Divine kind patience + Divine led repentance + positive volition at the point of God consciousness, + a Divine guaranteed good-news presentation + human faith (peitho: convinced) = eternally spiritually born again = a new creature/creation in Christ = God’s Glory—Amen.

Believer Repent Theorem: Jesus believer human, indwelled and sealed by the Holy Spirit, retains a nature to sin, commits personal sins + grieves the Holy Spirit + convicted conscience + learned Bible Doctrine + volitional desire to repent/with mind + confession of personal sins (1 John 1:9) = forgiveness, cleansing, filling of the Holy Spirit = God’s Glory—Amen.

Repent Biblical Evidence:

The main Greek vocabulary is: metanoe,w / metanoeo.  Literally: with mind. More than casual thought is the idea.  Repent/with mind is the idea.

NAS Romans 2:4 Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? (“kindness of God leads you to repentance”) (Humanity is spiritually dead in Adam. We could not repent/with mind on our own. Go ahead, find God on your own…) (“Leads you to repentance” is akin to Divinely provided God consciousness, Romans 1:19-20 and Divinely provided conviction, John 16:7-9. God gets all the credit, glory.)

NAS 2 Corinthians 7:9 I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God, in order that you might not suffer loss in anything through us. (Christian Way of Life improvement: “made sorrowful to the point of repentance”)

10 For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation; but the sorrow of the world produces death. (Relationship: Will of God, sorrow, repentance/with mind and no regret.) (“Salvation” = sozo = deliverance.  See the context.)

NAS 2 Corinthians 12:21 I am afraid that when I come again my God may humiliate me before you, and I may mourn over many of those who have sinned in the past and not repented of the impurity, immorality and sensuality which they have practiced. (Reversionism: “not repented of the impurity, immorality and sensuality which they have practiced”) (Christian Way of Life repentance/with mind is about as spiritually important as it gets. Repentance/with mind must include 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”)

NAS 2 Timothy 2:25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, (“God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth”) (Fallen humanity is incapable of a repentance/with mind apart from God.) (Context: 2 Timothy 2:26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.) (“with gentleness correcting” we have Good-News for them.  Repentance is a God thing. Conviction is a God thing – John 16:7-11.)

NAS Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, (Spiritually immature: “laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works”)

6 and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God, and put Him to open shame. (Reject Christology; “impossible to renew them again to repentance”)

NAS Hebrews 12:17 For you know that even afterwards, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears. (Esau: “he found no place for repentance”)

NAS 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. (Lord: “not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance”)

NAS Revelation 2:5 'Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you, and will remove your lampstand out of its place-- unless you repent. (Repent: “Remember therefore from where you have fallen”)

16 'Repent therefore; or else I am coming to you quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of My mouth. (Judgement, no repent, relationship.)

21 'And I gave her time to repent; and she does not want to repent of her immorality. (Judgement, no repent, relationship.) (“I gave her time to repent”) (“she does not want to repent of her immorality”)

22 'Behold, I will cast her upon a bed of sickness, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her deeds. (Judgement, no repent, relationship.) (“unless they repent of her deeds”)

NAS Revelation 3:3 'Remember therefore what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent. If therefore you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come upon you. (Remember, received, heard, keep, repent) (Judgement, no repent, relationship.)

19 'Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; be zealous therefore, and repent. (Call for Church Laodicea to repent.) (Context: 20 'Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me.  21 'He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.  22 'He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.'")

NAS Revelation 9:20 And the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk; (Judgement, no repent, relationship.)

21 and they did not repent of their murders nor of their sorceries nor of their immorality nor of their thefts.  (Judgement, no repent, relationship.)

NAS Revelation 16:9 And men were scorched with fierce heat; and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues; and they did not repent, so as to give Him glory. (Tribulation: “they did not repent, so as to give Him glory”) (Repent, God’s glory, relationship.)

11 and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores; and they did not repent of their deeds. (Tribulation: “they did not repent of their deeds”)

John 16:7-11 7 "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper shall not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. 8 "And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment; 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you no longer behold Me; 11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. (Divine provided conviction.)

Romans 1:18-23 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.  20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.  21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.  22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. (Divine provided God Consciousness.)

Ephesians 5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, (Sin versus filling.)

1 John 1:5-2:2 5 And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.  8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
